cd-wow slipping, play going from strength to strength

Got another order delay from cd-wow over Batman Begins (which I prompted from them after my last dozen or so orders all being delayed by at least a week, and up to a month!!!) so I cancelled and ordered with Play. Paid the extra pound and it is already in packing, within 1 hour.

Play are really kicking on in my opinion, while Cd-wow are floundering. They used to be a great company and are still fairly reliable, but i cannot help but see them going the same way as Splash.

Cd-Wow are usually pretty poor on pre-releases, i had Batman Begins despatched by them yesterday morning , but due to previous experience i had also placed an order with Play for the same item, and it was also dispatched yesterday!

I currently have pre-orders with CD-Wow for the special editions of the previous Batman films, and it looks like their going to be delayed by a week or so. Having said that last friday at 7.35pm i placed an order for an item thay already had in stock and i got it the folowing Monday

My missus has just been refunded £28.49 for Veronica Mars off Cdwow. She used one voucher, and a further £1 discount came via an affiliate site. Next thing, she gets an email telling her that people have been abusing the voucher system, and that she`s been refunded, because well, that`s pretty much what she was attempting to do! I`m sure they must have some trouble with this type of thing, but for the sake of lost business I think I would`ve perhaps let it slide, and then updated the system they use to prevent it happening again. She wasn`t trying to rip anyone off, just get a better deal.

I can certainly appreciate the issues with e-vouchers, but the internet retailers created the whole thing about getting a better deal. For the most part lately I cannot honestly see the benefit in ordering online, unless it`s an import you can`t get here. Both sale items and new release DVD prices have been well matched on the high street now, or at least in yer supermarkets as I`ve recently discovered.

Agreed. Now you can order a dvd online for about 12.99 and possibly get it a couple of days after release, or you can pop to tesco and pay 13.99 (or even as low as 11.97) and get it on the day of release.

Only etailers like play who pretty much guarantee delivery on the day of release are worth bothering with now. CD-Wow are still pretty good for CDs, but are definitely on the slide, shame really as they were a firm favourite of mine beforehand.
