18866 - putting their charges up

kingkev (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 22nd March 2005, 10:16

18866 is a phone company that currently charges 1p for each phone call - this is the connection charge. The actual phone call is free. It isn`t a scam - I have been using them since November - and my three months bill - including a few calls to the USA - has come to a grand total of £3.65. You still have to pay the line rental with BT - but you do with most others. I know of no better deals.

They are, sadly, doubling their charge to 2p connection from the end of March - but that is still significantly cheaper than all the rest. Their call charges to USA etc are also very cheap.

Incidently, I am in no way associated with the company - just a satisfied user!.

I use their sister company 1899 - slightly more expensive connection charge I think, but all UK landline calls are free, even from NTL/Telewest phones (you just ring a freephone number wait for the voice prompt and dial the number followed by the hash key - you also helpfully get a message telling you the cost of the call per minute, plus if the person you`re rringing doesn;t answer, when they do 1471 they get your number without any probs).

I am another 1899 user, like it very much, I found that the calls were cheaper than 18866 even though the connection charge was more. Using it to call my other half in France only 1p/min to the landline with 5p connection and 18866 was 1p connection and 2p/min. If only I could get away with 2 min phone calls. :)

But do check them out prices are listed on their website I have had very good service and listed mobile numbers as well as the landline!!
