Now, please correct me if i`m talking out of my arse, but...
I ordered an item with DVD Soon. I then realised JUST as i clicked to process the order, it was the wrong thing. So i cancelled it. Now, i`m aware that they are supposed to take the money out of my bank straight away, but they didn`t. They waited a few days until the exchange rate was at a lower than usual point (CA$2.21 to £1 or something), and then took it out (after my order was cancelled, might i add), thus taking about £1 more than it would`ve been had they taken the money day of order. Then they say they`ll refund my card in 3 weeks - but what`s the betting my money is refunded at a CA$ strong point, and i get less £ back in than they took out, as they will be refunding in dollars, not pounds.
If they did that with even half their orders, that`d be a tidy little profit...
Or maybe i`m just stoopid.

RE: The DVD Soon Conspiracy.
The fact that they take 3 weeks to refund your money means they will make money off the interest over 3 weeks. Same happened to me when I cancelled, got less money back due to interest rate plus they held onto my money for 3 weeks. Greedy @sses, won`t shop with them ever again, useless company anyway.
i may be wrong, but either way dvdsoon get whatever you paid them in canadian dollars - it`s the bank/credit card company you use that get`s the exchange rate difference as it`s how they make their money. dvdsoon`s credit refund is there to avoid fluctuations in the exchange rate, so either way you get to spend whatever you paid in canadian dollars - which is as fair as it gets really. dvdsoon may bill you immediately but it`s the credit card company that processes the transaction when it wants at their particular exchange rate.

Wow they`d make, what, about a tenth of a penny from interest from that!
How you got less money back from an interest rate is confusing - do you mean the exchange rate? DVD Soon will (as it`s already been pointed out) not gain from this as the transaction is done in Canadian Dollars at their end.
RE: The DVD Soon Conspiracy.
Bigfan,
Do you know how interest rates work? If not don`t bother giving me a sarcasticc reply.
DVD Soon has thousands of customers, if they hold on to the money from all customers who cancel their orders, they make more than a tenth of a penny.
The fact that they adopt a policy of holding money for 3 weeks is evident enough that they stand to gain.
The bottom line is that you know the deal - if you read the T&Cs - you have the freedom to shop with them or not. Due to fluctuations in the exchange rate, the fairest thing they can do is offer a credit note. Maybe they need the 3 weeks to investigate any fraud. In any case, they may have thousands of customers but I`m guessing the majority of them receive their goods or have no reason to cancel their orders. The fact that you got less money back is solely down to banks.
The moral of the story is make sure you buy the correct item and don`t expect it to arrive too quickly ;) .
RE: The DVD Soon Conspiracy.
I`ve just had a refund from them and it took 8 calendar days. There is a warning that it can take up to 21 days so I knew what to expect. DVDSoon are very hot on fraud prevention and I suspect this is why there is a delay. Also, remember you have an interest free period on your card, so as long as you pay your credit card off in full you should not be out of pocket on any interest. Previously refunds were automated now they are appear to be manually authorised.
I don`t mind people bad mouthing real villains but DVDSoon are up there with the best for me. They are rarely beaten on price and their range is pretty comprehensive. I`ve ordered literally hundreds of DVDs from them. I`ve had a couple go missing and they have replaced them without undue hassle. The new procedure having to sign an affidavit is cumbersome, but again I suspect it`s because they`ve been stung by the usual fraudulant scumbags taking advantage of the previous lax replacement policy.
They are very quick to dispatch if you order pre-release stuff but not so hot on speed for back catalogue items. If you remember that you can`t go far wrong with them. If you are desperate for something you can pay a premium and join the rest of the full price lemmings at HMV!
The only thing I can really fault DVDSoon on is that they are French (only kidding!)
RE: The DVD Soon Conspiracy.
