Page 1 of CDWOW Customs charges!! + Xmas posting.

Thought I`d let you know that I`ve been finally caught with customs with CD WOW - not bad I suppose seeing I`ve used them for a couple of years. Buffy Season 5 R1 - store price £30.99. Shipped from Hong Kong - Customs charge £5.49 - Post Office charge £4.00. Total £9.49. BUMMER. The post office charge gets me - for £4.00 they drop a bit of paper through your door saying pay up and then you have to go and collect your parcel!!!

Also not impressed with CDWOWS Xmas posting promise - `order before Dec16th for Xmas delivery` - well ordered the above boxset on Dec 15th and got it yesterday (7th Jan). Called them up - not arsed and said its 14 days from actually shipping date - they shipped it Xmas Eve.Cheers.

Please don`t tell me they are giving up the good customer care practice.

When s*** like that happens to me now, I just refuse to accept the package. It then gets sent back to the company who are obliged to either resend it or refund you

Did they say anything about the customs charges? I have the Die Hard Trilogy in the post. :/

If you watch the news tonight(thursday 8th jan)the British phonographic institute are taking legal action against cd wow(as well as others)for selling music cds outside of the eu.Sounds very similar to the region 1 problem with laser enterprises a few years ago.It will be interesting to see the outcome of the test case.

If I go to CD WOW and add Buffy Season 5 Region 1 to my cart, I get a pop-up warning me that it only plays on Region 1 *and* the following text:

"You MAY be charged VAT / IMPORT DUTY as the value of this product is in excess of your personal import allowance. This tax is collected by the Postman / Postal Agent. This will not affect any other items you may have ordered."

They`ve been doing this pop-up for absolutely ages (I know, cos when I`ve seen it in the past on CD WOW, I simply didn`t buy the product...what a way to lose sales !), so it`s not that you weren`t warned that you could have import duty/VAT (and a postal charge quite often - 3 charges...what a con).

All of this bodes not too well for next November when the best DVD release of the year is coming out (LOTR:ROTK 4-disc set) - how will I get my Region 1 copy at under 18 quid now that DVD Soon charge postage and put the exact amount on their packaging ?

Hopefully dvd.co.uk will be doing another cracking deal on the 4 Disc LOTR as they did with Part 2 - think it was £17.99 - but I did have to wait about a week after the official release date.
