No more excuses, just how bad are Movietyme???

Carlito (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 11th February 2001, 20:45

To be honest, I don`t think I have ever experienced customer service as non-existent as this in my life.

I like many others it seems am waiting for my copy of Crouching Tiger for nearly a month now. I mean what kind of business just plain refuses to respond to customer e-mails. Excuse me, but aren`t we the people that put bread on your table!

Their web site stated a number of weeks ago that orders received after the 23rd would be subject to delays of 2-3 weeks. No problem, mine was placed before then! Then that was changed to 3-4 weeks with now no reference made to a cut off date. Still that doesn`t affect me surely! Now the chancers are just plain saying there will be a delay, and all the time point blank refusing to answer enquiring customer e-mails "as this will slow down the shipping process". I mean, give me a break, just how stupid do they think we are? It`s just unprofessional, full stop.
Rest assured, when and if my copy of HDCT turns up, I will never, ever use this poor excuse for an e-retailer again.

Oh, and the person that used this forum to rave about Movietyme`s amazingly quick service a few weeks ago (prompting me to use them I might add), your either very very lucky or in their employ, and I suspect it`s the latter in this case.

Feel free to comment ladies and gents.

Movietyme will probably go tits up in the next couple of weeks, and its largely down to customers who have inundated the company with orders for CTHD and then gone ballistic when it isn`t sent return of post.

I gave up on my orders (none of them CTHD) last week because of their reluctance to answer emails. They answered straight away and while being very polite about it, I got the distinct impression they wouldn`t accept orders from me in the future for causing trouble. Frankly I don`t blame them. It`s not like they`re a huge company. They`re supposedly headquartered in the US, buying disks from Hong Kong where the supplier keeps fobbing them off with excuses. Back here in the UK they`re fielding 200+ emails a day from customers whining about waiting. Do the maths - it normally takes a week to ten days to get stuff from Canada or the US, so freighting stuff in from HK just might take a little longer. If the suppliers are arsing about, a little delay is inevitable.

I`ve been digging around finding out a bit more about this fiasco, so consider this. The HK supplier is hiking the price of the CTHD disks because of shortages, and because Movietyme quoted a price, it has to absorb that increase. We`re talking about 4000+ disks, so Movietyme RIP looks like a probability to me.

Wow I feel pretty lucky to have gotten mine from then then ;-)

Anyway, I think their main problem was taking more orders for CTHD than they could handle!

They`ve obviously got a problem but I don`t think bombarding them with emails is going to help anyone. They don`t charge your credit card until it`s shipped so if you`re not happy to wait for your order then cancel it - simple!

A simple case of masticatory capacity overestimation.

well i`m in the same boat as you and how quick they are, f*** I couldn`t imagine how a company in the usa could get anything over here in 1 day.

unless they used a special courier service, and i`m not that happy bout Movietyme date I placed my order before the 23rd and
it still ain`t arrived :-(.
But like the other person said they don`t charge for the film till it`s shipped, and i can`t find anyone that can supply me with a cpoy within
the next week or 2.
this film better be GOOD .

I preordered CTHD 5 on the 17th Jan and still no luck.

I also pre-ordered Charlies Angels. I think I might have to cancel this and just keep my fingers crossed for CTHD.

Check out www.dc-dvd.co.uk

Quite a small outfit I think but they are always quick and reliable, especially with pre-orders. They usually arrive at 2 days before the official release date!
