Having finally got around to getting an NTSC TV, I need to know who to order Region 1 DVD`s from.

Cheers

Play.com do loads of R1s & they are my main supplier. Order dvds one at a time and they are not generally caught by Customs.

Recently I`ve been using Amazon.ca a lot - they`re pretty good on price & are giving free upgrades to DHL, which means, if you`re really sad, you can track where your dvds as they fly from Canada to London... Couriered packs seem to be less likely to be caught by Customs if you exceed the £18 limit. Canadian suppliers often put dvds in dual-language French/English packages which seems to upset some people.

For obscure stuff I`ve used at various times DV-Depot, DVD Import and DVD Box Office - which are all ok but not brilliant. I`ve also occasionally used Amazon.com as a last resort, which is normally the most expensive (but if things go missing they`re ok about putting it right).

I use www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk to compare prices.

And I use www.dvdcompare.org.uk to work out which region gives me the best dvd.

Happy importing!

Cd-wow are also good for region 1. And 2, 3 and 4! They may not have the depth and breadth of choice as, say, play, but they offer excellent customer service and superb delivery times. They are also very cheap. Which is nice.

be very careful with cd-wow.com as though they are really cheap and fast their stuff is flown in from hong kong with HUGE stickers saying exactly how much the package is worth...and then say a big hello to import duty.

for smaller stuff i agree on dvdboxoffice.com (ive never had any problems with them) and amazon.ca. once you get past that magic figure of £36 pounds then you may well be better off by buying from play.com.

cd-wow say that they have changed their delivery system to reduce the problem of customs and I think they might reinburse you if it gets caught.
I recently bought the criterion edition of Brazil which at £29.99 is well over the limit and didn`t get charged duty on it.
Note that not all their stuff comes from Hong Kong.
