Do Not Buy From Scan

Tom Kearney (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 26th November 2002, 11:05

This may not be the forum for this but ....... do not buy from SCAN
I bought an item for £70. + £30 delivery to Ireland.
Item did not work.
Delivered back to SCAN with RMA Paid another £30 delivery.
2 weeks later no sign of replacement. Web site indicated replacement approved.
Called SCAN and they said my credit card was re-embursed £70 as item was no longer available.
I am down £60 shipping through no fault of my own.
SCAN`s response. Tough!

..and for a bit of balance, I`ve bought a few things from Scan in my time and everything has arrived in time, in working order and is still working. We all have bad experiences at times, but does a one off make them the most evil company ever?...mind you, having said that...Britannia Music!!....hmmm

I`d like to think i`m a reasonable guy. That`s why I gave them a second chance(I bought a DVD player and had a similar problem) and this happened. It`s great that nelly has offered to refund my shipping but should a customer have to resort to a bulletin board to receive a decent level of service?

I have spent probably the best part of £20 on telephone calls before I got through to someone.

Tom.

To be fair, it does look as if the fault lies at your end (or rather, at your ISPs !) - Nilesh has stated that their e-mails to you bounced back, so it`s not as if no effort was made to contact you.

And how do you arrive at £20 for `phone calls ? Were you using a mobile ? Probably cheaper to have gone to a phone box ;-)

Good man Clayts taking up for Scan again.
If you call Scan from Ireland approx 20 times and wait on the line for 5-10 minutes each time I think this can work out quite expensive, what do you think?

On the matter of my email bouncing, I emailed Nilesh 5 times with no reply. I went on to their email help system 3 times at which point I would have had to type my email wrong 3 times! I don`t think so.

This is all without going into my DVD saga which believe me is too painful.

Any more questions Clayts?

Tom - would you care to expand on this statement :

"Good man Clayts taking up for Scan again"

Not quite sure what you`re referring to there, to be honest.

My reasons for posting what I did were that your opening salvo on this forum was "This may not be the forum for this but ....... do not buy from SCAN".

A bit of a sweeping statement, given that you`ve experienced a problem (and no doubt, any customer of any organisation ever invented has too) :-)

I was trying to bring a bit of balance to a one-sided debate (playing Devil`s advocate, which most people here know that I tend to do !).

Point taken about the phone calls, hence my question how did you arrive at £20.

You don`t have to be defensive on these forums ! If we were in a pub talking we would have dismissed our contra-temps as a disagreement and moved on : no need to make an issue out of it, and make out I`m some kind of Scan supporter !!! Just smoothing the path, ensuring free-dlowing debate, as is my wont as a moderator

Nelly, just a quick one.

Are you the same Scan that is in Wigston?

All the best,

The 42%er.
