iOS 64 bit apocalypse

RJS (undefined) posted this on Wednesday, 9th August 2017, 07:46

With the upcoming iOS 11 any 32 bit apps you may have on the appstore will go bye-bye. iOS 11 will be a strictly 64 bit only system.

There is a list of noteable games that will not work unless they get a new update, here:

Some of them are worrying...

  • DOOM classic
  • Baldur's Gate
  • Icewind Dale
  • geoDefense
  • Infinity Blade
  • Peggle Classic
  • XCom

Hopefully they'll get updated.

Does this mean they will disappear for the non 64bit capable ipads that are stuck on IOS 10? Ipad mini gen 1 and older.

No, only for any device that you upgrade to iOS 11.

So people with old iPads (like you and me, I have an iPad 3 stuck on iOS 9!) we can still run 32 bit apps.

However I don't think 32 bit apps will receive any more updates, or Apple will even allow them to. So they'll be frozen in time.

I was asking for a friend :-) Updated my Mini2 to the new Ipad 9.7" a few weeks ago with a 3 year warranty from John Lewis.
