Page 1 of Embedding album art
PCs & Mobiles Forum
My new car will display album art on the satnav screen, via the USB.
I therefore need to make sure album art is embedded onto the music files before I transfer them onto the USB.
How do I do this? :/
As far as I can tell, album art is in a seperate folder from the music files?

Is it as simple as making sure album art is displayed in the `get info` box?
For all the tracks on an album?
I know how to do that, I regularly place art in that box manually.
Loadsa ways and it depends on which method your player supports.
Will you have each album in its own folder on the player?
First, try simply having a jpg of the album art in each folder called folder.jpg.
Other than that you will need to embed it. The tool I use is mp3tag. You find the music folder in it and select all the files. Drag the jpg from your PC to the bottom left of mp3tg and re-save (top left). This means re-saving all files though - best try the first option first. :)
My car has a 30GB HDD with the inbuilt SatNav - it`s ace to be able to listen to any one of hundreds of albums - but a pain getting them on there from USB stick.. :)

Well it does when I put mine on, but I do it manually. Of all the programs I`ve used that`s the one thing Itunes does better than the others as the album art then shows up on anything else I play it on.

My car has that too, with 12.5GB cached for music.
It`s easily loaded onto the hard drive, via a seperate `data input` USB in the glove box.
Just shove it in and press `import`.
However, there are two problems with this.
1/ It compresses the files, which compromises the quality
2/ It doesn`t display album art.
I`d rather just use the other USB in the glovebox, which plays music `as is`.
I`ll get better quality, and it will then display album art.

That`s what I was thinking.
But now we move onto silly question time. ;)
How do I get those files onto the USB stick?
When I look under `my music` on the PC, there`s files all over the place. :/
But they all appear in itunes fine.
Is there any way I can move tracks direct from itunes to USB??
Is there one specific folder I need to look for, where all the music will be??

C:\Users\*****\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music
as for inbedding a jpeg, I use TagScanner

Being mentioned is that iTunes has its art embedded - which is true for most things or if you add them manually. BUT depending on how you have it set up they may be in m4a format - which my (and probably yours?) player doesn`t play. If they`re all mp3 then it`s fine. I would definitely just try the folder.jpg thing first if they`re not already embedded.
Isn`t there an iPod dock too? That`s even better because you can use playlists and folder structure isn`t as important.
So you`re not thinking of using the HDD but just a USB stick?

The BMW manual doesn`t say, it just says music files will be compressed if you save them to the car.
The cache is 12.5MB and it can hold 26000 tracks.
It can definitely play m4a when using a USB.
It plays stuff from my iphone by bluetooth too, but no track info.
I could buy a lead to connect the iphone to USB, but I`d lose the charging option.
I prefer to have the iphone charging in the car and used as a phone.
Then a USB for music (which I can just leave in the car permanently).

Cool - as long as it can play m4a you`re laughing. :)
