Anyone help on a PS3 problem

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 8th November 2009, 11:50

The home computer and a laptop connect fine through the router, the main desktop is wired in and the laptop wirelessly with no problems.
The PS3 connection is dodgy, seems slow and intermittent, which means gameplay on Modern Warfare keeps hanging up or dropping completely.
Trying the Beebs iplayer on it also results in the program pausing, presumably due to slow download.
I`m also getting a green cast on TV shows but not on the menu screen around it.

Anyone help before my lad goes ape when he can`t play the new Modern Warfare release on Tuesday.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

I`ll give that a try, at the moment I`m forcing a system update just to make sure everything is OK with the OS.
I`m beginning to wonder if there`s a problem with the coverage from the sky router, the PS3`s upstairs in a bedroom and the routers downstairs on the other side of the house.

could be. it`s always best with wifi stuff to try and give a clear "line of sight". i know this
isn`t possible when there are floors involved, but try and position the router or ps3 so that
neither are obscured by dense furniture / double glazing or any other items which might
degrade the signal.

if you still can`t get a decent signal, you could always try "homeplugs" which use your
electric mains to transfer network data. i`ve got a couple at home and they`re great.

A few things that helped when I was on sky using the black router.

change the DNS settings to use open DNS in the ps3

try changing the channel on the router to 5 or around there as most sky router come config`d with it on 12 or 13

Get a long ethernet cable and wire it up he will never moan again and be a happy puppy

ask sky to reduce your max delays (ie reduce your ping via the online form)
in the first drop down select tech support

next one sky BB - connection - slow connection

complete the rest of your form and it will be actioned in 48hrs or call tech support but that will be a long call
