Page 1 of Wireless router question
PCs & Mobiles Forum
Going to have to bite the bullet and get t`internet at home.
Probably SKY broadband.
Anyway, I assume the wireless router has to go near a phone point.
The only logical location is right next to my LCD telly.
Will it interfere with the telly???? :/
Slightest even hint of that and I will have to figure something else out.

It only has to go as near to the phone point as the length of the lead will allow and I`m not sure how long that lead can be but probably long enough to not worry about TV interference.
Interestingly (or not!) my Samsung LCD occasionally has something like sparhly interference lines across it. If it`s on Sky+, they are quite short but can appear anywhere on the screen. On the PS3 they appear as a longer line but always in the same place (approx 3 inches from the bottom of the screen). They go away if I turn the TV to standby and back on again.
I was wondering if a mains filter may help?
I`ve tried turning off the router and it isn`t that but then again mine`s miles away from the TV.

iirc, BT recommend that your router be no more than 10 metres away from your
master socket.... if you use a decent quality cable you should be able to double
that without any issues.
your router will operate in the 2.4Ghz band which is normally used by DECT phones.
we occasionally get a little bit of a crackle when the router is on and we`re using the
phone, but nothing worth worrying over.

Smee, does your Samsung have `movie plus` ??
I`ve read stuff about that causing screen `artifacts`, especially with a PS3.
if you have it enabled, try switching it off.
Thanks for replies on router, to all.

It`s f***ed then. :D
Nah, sorry, I don`t have a clue what could be causing that.
coughknockitoverandclaimofftheinsurancecough.....
my rounter is 12 meters from my master socket i dont experience any interferance at all
on my phones (cordless digital ones synergy by bt quads) and i have lcd tv not a problem
there either there or my family`s 3 wireless laptops, mobile phones playstation consoles or anything the line is good i even have a broadband phone as wel as those powerlines for vision box so if i not have interferance out of all that i never will lol
the memory of you will bloom like the flower in the garden of my heart
dont know if its too late, but my brother says that his Sky broadband is pure s***. it keeps glitching off and gives them no end of probs..
I ditched Sky - i had BT broadband - and went with Virgin for a combined telly, phone, broadband package and I cant really complain. For one thing its half the price
The virgin box is HD as well apparently, never tried that myself, but others probably have.
If you had Sky you will hate the menu system on virgin, but life`s a bitch.. whatcha going to do?

I switched to Sky BB at the beginning of the year and must say that I have been very pleased. I am connected to a 16Mbps enabled exchange, but because of my distance from the exchange I am syncing at just under 8, which is only a marginal improvement over the old BT Max connection. However there are no bandwidth problems and I can max the connection 24/7 with no problems.
Also their tech support is excellent (so far). During the intial 10 day period, when they determine your maximum stable line speed, my sync rate was running below the old Max line. One short phone call later they had tweaked the settings and it has been rock solid since then. The really nice thing was that they just discuss your problem and try to rectify it. When you deal with BT based ISPs they have a massive list of standard questions that you always have to plough through (BT Openreach requirement) ."Have you changed the filter, rebooted, installed latest firmware, is the modem connected to the master socket, have you disconnected all other phone equipment, is your mothers`s name Fanny, etc.....". None of that crap from Sky, just "you have a problem, let us see if we can fix it", honestly a very refreshing change.
Sky BB is also cheap.
