PC and Laserjet Printer connected via Parallel lead through port replicator
Anyone know if my Dell Laptop PC running Windows XP controls my old Laserjet 111P switching on via software?
The printer does now not switch on when I push the on button, however it starts working for no apparent reason sometimes an hour after switch on? It has only started happening recently, so thought it might have something to do with the laptop controlling the switching on of the Laserjet.
Or possibly could just be a fault on the printer.
Any ideas please?

It`s worse than that he`s dead Jim.
I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.
When fishermen catch dolphin-friendly tuna, how do they know which tuna are being friendly to dolphins?

It`s working again.
Found that it was caused by a faulty mains lead.
Yes the printer is over 5 years old, but it prints all my work emails and documents brilliantly (When the mains lead is fixed) :D

Well it appears that it is not the mains lead after all.
Tried a different lead and effect was the same.
However when switching the printer on, it seems to take over an hour to actually come on :/
Don`t know what the problem is, can only assume that there is an intermittent fault somewhere in the mains supply circuitry, etc.

At 19 years old, its time for a new one.

Heartily glad that I don`t have to learn how to spell Chiwetel Ejiofor.

They were considered `the older models` when I worked for HP back in 1995-1999. Ahh brings back memories.................
Bloody good machines though, built like a tank and lasted forever. It`s my guess that the voltage regulator in the power supply is playing up, it`s probably taking the hour for the capacitors to reach full charge before power is then supplied to the actual printer gubbins.
You could try replacing the capacitors, doubt it if you`d be able to get hold of a complete PSU for it now. But saying that mono lasers are so cheap now it would probably be cheaper and certainly a lot more convinient to just buy a new one.
Other option is to leave it on, so the caps are constantly being charged.
All the best
Gerald.

Sometimes, it takes over 3 hours to come on, sometimes two hours, it varies.
That is whay I thought that it could have been something to do with the Laptop (Dell) communicating via the parallel port of the replicator to the printer "stopping it coming on".
I will try and switch on and leave it running (until i get my new Samsung).
I must admit that the Laserjet is a fantastic printer, just a shame no USB (and from above post a properly working mains supply unit).
