windows media player will not play avi files???
I need some help from you guys and girls. Over the last few days I have downloaded some avi files from a site from which I have done so loads of times in the past. Now when I try to play them in wmp all I get is sound and no video??. I have downloaded them as video clips the same as in the past and when I check them they seem to be a file type that says video clip???.
RE: windows media player will not play avi files???
They`re probably encoded with xvid or divx, so you`ll need to download one of those codecs to get the video.

Or use VLC media player which will through nearly anything you throw at it (and is free and a small file to download).

Aye, it`s not bad. Even plays Flash. Personally I use my Xbox with XBMC for everything, as that plays all sorts and of course it looks better on the big screen.

Thanks for the quick replies . The thing is why would they play fine two days ago but not now??. Chris where can I download those codecs from and how easy is it to install them??

i also recomend the klite pack, which includes media player classic, both VLC & Klite are excellent, but i find media player classic to be a slightly better player..
Klite
VLC

My windows media player just randomly decided it wouldn`t play some files any more, don`t know if it is related to my refusal to update to the horrible latest version. I just gave up and use media player classic for movie files instead.

Thanks again guys you have been a great help. Another thing I do not post here often but have been looking in each day for years. Its always a great place to find out what is going on.

I always use Cyberlink PowerDVD to watch all my video and films. Slightly off topic I know but worth a go at least.....
