Page 1 of My laptop sucks...

Not sure if it`s pure coincidence, but it seems everytime I close the lid on my rubbish Acer laptop, it turns off the wireless connection - at the router! I then need to reset the router to turn the wireless back on. It also loses the connection completely randomly maybe once or twice a day.
Anyone care to point out where I`ve gone wrong?

Have a look at the power management settings, both Windows and the Acer supplied applet.

I suspect that the notebook is set to hibernate when the lid is closed, and that the wireless controller is failing to come out of power save state cleanly.

Will take a look, but fiddled with all that already. Def not set to hibernate though when the lid shuts, I download too much so disabled this straight away.

on a more serious note.. how do you find the battery life on your acer.
running mine unplugged on wireless, lasts for about ten mins.. seriously. they cant all be as gash as that.. can they?

I have a 1683WLMI - Pentium M 735 (1.7GHz). When it was new I ran on battery to see how long it would run, and could get about 4 hours of reasonable use. Over two years old now and I had to run on battery power the other day, got over two hours before I shut down, there was still some life in the battery.

That`s what I thought.. but I guess they can!
I keep mine plugged in 24/7 these days...

Check the settings on the wireless router. Our one had a default setting of automatically disconnecting the internet connection after 30 mins of inactivity.
