If you mean a blue screen, and it`s IRQ_NOT_LESS_NOR_EQUAL or something similar, it`s video card related. In particular it may be your drivers, try www.nvidia.com and get the latest WHQL versions, see if that helps.
Annoyingly, in my experience this can also be caused by to cheap a PSU, or generic RAM. But I`ve also heard from a lot of gamers that using one driver version over another fixed it for them.

Had this happen to me. The engineer replaced the motherborad and power supply as well as replacing the processor as well as fan. In the end he thought it was possibly down to overheating. Nearly replaced the entire computer before he deceided this! Still it was under warrenty. Funnily enough I thought it was graphics related at first as it crashed out when it was playing games.
It`s behaved itself since - now I`ve done it bet it won`t work tonight :/

Thanks for replies.
Gonna try the Nvidia thing first, then over-heating. I have a feeling it is the latter. Bummer. ;(

this isn`t the first time you have thought you might have a problem with your gfx adaptor ? wasn`t that one of the things we looked at in the nero thread ?
maybe time for a new rig.

I wish. That will be impossible for a long, long time. Will just soldier on regardless.
i was thinking along the lines of just the gfx at the mo :) if your on agp (& as your running a socket A cpu then you are on agp) then a different gfx card is cheap enough, from previous threads you aren`t a games player ? if so, 15-20 quid will get you an acceptable card (for your circumstances) & it "might" solve some of your probs, another thing you could try is getting the latest drivers for your motherboard, this can fix bugs between the gfx card & the agp drivers, i`m only fishing, but it`s worth a try.
if you post the model number of the mobo & the type of card i`ll find a link to the drivers for you ?
at least you have something free you can try :)
What card is it btw? And does this only happen during gaming?

Um....never been near a game. It just "happens".
I know Windows, but I am afraid I have no idea inside a computer so have no idea as to what all those bits and bobs are.
I think (don`t quote me) the motherboard is ASUS somethingorother and the display adaptor is RADEON 7000 SERIES.
That was info pinched from Belarc.
As I say, I know Windows well, but inside the computer I am one of "them" that does not wanna know. :/

Afraid that is as bad as the Enigma Code to me. :(
