Page 1 of HELP: Which Graphics Card
PCs & Mobiles Forum
Hi All
Basically my problem is that I cant decide between two graphics cards. My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600 and takes an AGP graphics card. I have found the following graphics cards from crucial.com but because i am so uneducated on graphics cards I cannot distinguish the best from the good. I will be doing alot of video editing on my computer using Avid Xpress and Adobe Premier Pro.
256mb Card

512mb Card

Could some please help me figure out which card would suit me best in terms of performance. Thankyou!

Sorry them links did not appear, here they are again. Thankyou!
256Mb Card
512Mb Card
Both will be more than adequate for the task in hand, and the 256MB one is the more powerful card. RAM on your gfx card is only an issue for gaming.
Personally I`d go for a Nvidia 6600 GT based card, as my experiences with ATI have been consistantly poor, in both reliability and backwards compatibity. For example Rally Masters (the best driving game of all time on the PC) is quite old, and will not run with ATI`s drivers, but is fine on Nvidia.

RE: HELP: Which Graphics Card
Is the Nvidia 6600 GT around the same price range of £125 and how would i know if it is compatible with my computer?
For photo editing you can even use a simple 6200 (preferably with onboard memory) card that costs around £30-£35. What`s more is that the 6200 card is fanless.
John, are you sure the x800 is more powerful? It looks very close to me (one uses GDDR3 memory but the other has higher speed processing) although I don`t have benchmarking tests to hand.
Hitchcock,
The 6600 is available in both AGP and PCI x16 so will almost certainly be compatible with your board.
