Software for batch converting avi to mpg required
I have about 10 avis that I would like to convert and store on dvd. Is it possible to convert these all in one go rather than having to do each one individually so i can leave the process going all day and all night without me having to start each one fresh (slow computer you see!!)
Cheers

If archiving just shove them all on a data disc.
IIRC you can open several instances of divX to DVD at once if you want to actually be watching from discs.

Ta for your reply xfgurly - I need to convert them to mpgs so I can give a copy to my father in law so he can watch them on his DVD player (they don`t have DivX player - if only life were so simple lol). Any ideas?

IIRC TMPGEnc allows you to setup multiple jobs for conversion and leave it running overnight, but it only encodes MPEG-1. There was a pro version that did MPEG-2., It has been at least a year since I used it so things may have changed now.
RE: Software for batch converting avi to mpg required
depends on the AVI size, but I have just used VSO DivxtoDVD and put six episodes of West Wing on one DVD. Could probably have put another couple on as well. Just opened the programme, added all the AVIs that needed converting, and let it run.
Plays through all the progs on all our players.
ps, must be DivxtoDVD pro

I haven`t tried it yet but this seems to do what you want.

RE: Software for batch converting avi to mpg required
On a slightly different subject....When converting avi`s to mpg I had a file that went from 699 MB to just over 3GB in the conversion process, is this right ? :o I was hoping to be able to just burn the converted mpg to a cd-rw as an svcd but at 3GB this just isn`t possible. Do I need another software package to shrink the converted file down or is there one that will convert the avi and still keep it in a managable file size?
