Can anyone help? Every time I go to play something on media player I get a message that says " internal application error" and after that I cant click on any desktop icons,
anyone with any ideas would be gratefully received.

put your windows disc into the cd/dvd drive & after it auto starts select the install components option & try re-installing media player :)

failing that go into the M$ website & get the newest version.

hope this helps :)

What kind of file is it you`re trying to play?
If you`ve done a reinstall then I suspect it`s to do with something else you`re installing. Codecs or java.
Re-registering a DLL may fix the problem.
Start -> Run, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and click OK. Now click Start -> Run again, but this time type regsvr32 vbscript.dll and click OK.

real player "shouldn`t" cause the problem your having, but i do find it conflicts with loads of stuff, try downloading the klite codec pack ( i get it from bit-torrent) it`s about 29meg but it includes media player/real player/ quicktime alternatives all in one bundle & the codecs will work with any other media players you have installed (tho, tbh i don`t think it will solve your win media player problem, but, it`s worth a try & it`ll play anything) also consider downloading power dvd & i-tunes (theres peeps on this board open mouthed that i`ve recomended i-tunes) i-tunes can emulate many of the ripping/burning features of win media player, tho personaly i don`t use any of these for this purpose, i`ll rip a cd then use nero to burn, converging ripping & burning features into single packages is all well & good but i can`t help thinking it`s just a way of dumbing us all down

heres a direct link to the codec pack i mentioned, but as i can`t verify the source please take the usual precautions before installing it, tho the file size etc is exactly right so i don`t expect any problems. http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file=klmcodec145.exe&size=29995707

hope this helps & remember to let us know if it sorts your problem out :)

So, from a pretty much clean install it can`t find them?
Definitely typed in correctly?

Next option would be to restore them from the I386 folder in a cab from CD.

If it can`t see them, I can`t see how any codecs will fix it.

Winamp and Video Lan Client (VLC) will do everything Windows Media Player did (other than Windows Media files like .wmv, .wma) if it comes down to having to use alternatives.

as i said, it almost certainly won`t, but the alternative software i recomended will do the job. but as the klite codec pack bobs in out & through win media player, you never kmow, it might do something :)
