RAM to -R without using TMPG DVD AUTHOR 1.6 Help

GJF (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 6th October 2005, 10:01

I copied a RAM disc made on my Panasonic onto my HD using DVD Decrypter using ISO mode and then burned it onto a -RW. It played ok on my Panasonic. I then tried to burn the same image onto a -R. When I tried to play it on my Panasonic it says unsupported. Do I need to finalise the -R and how do I do this. I cannot find anything in Decrypter.
I have tried TMPG DVD Author 1.6 but the rial period expired and I cant afford to buy it.

I have just tried to copy the -RW disc (which played ok on my Pan DMR ES10) with Nero and that would not play on my Pan. or my LG4163 DVD writer. I am using Maxell discs in both cases. Am I doing something wrong in using Decrypter...I don`t know.
Can anyone recommend a free programme to copy RAM to -R. and the mode to use within it. I am just interested in copying the whole disc as I can edit in my Panasonic

maxell discs are RUBBISH.. I have had loads of coasters with them. R`s and RW`s. avoid.

All I could find were these programs here. If you needed full versions have a "look" around the web.

It`s nothing to do with the disc quality you are using -you`ve got to get it out of the RAM format and into a format other machines can understand, AFAIK< there are no freebies that can do this for you.

To answer your first paragraph, it sounds like you`ve just tried to burn the DVD-RAM across directly onto a DVD-R. Even though you`ve done that, it will still be in DVD-RAM format, and your player won`t understand the file structure (i.e. you can`t burn DVD-RAM onto DVD-R, it`s got to be `re-packaged` first-hence programs such as TMPGenc DVD Autor are a necessity)

Thanks for helping. I am a newbie to all this as you will have realised, but if the -RW copy disc played on my Panasonic recorder then why won`t the -R. Are you saying that DVD Decrypter did not convert the RAM files.

I`m pretty sure DVD Decrypter won`t have converted anything as it`s not a converter at all, it will have just made an ISO image of what it read off the RAM disc and that is what you`ve burned onto to -R disc, which is why it won`t play -it`s like putting a DVD with data on it, the player isn`t `trained` to read DVD-RAM format video off a DVD-r.

Why the -RW disc worked is anyones guess-possibly because there is a VR format that you can use on some -R/RW machines (My LG4810, for instance) which has a similar file structure to RAM. I`ll bet if you try that -RW disc on another non- Panasonic player that it won`t play either.

What software have you got? Nero? NeroVision?
Try renaming the vro file to mpg.. and go from there................

I am using NERO Start Smart that came with the LG4163.

OK I will try D/L a trial of the programme you found.

Thanks for the help I can see now that the RAM wasn`t converted.

Nero Smartstart is just the name that Nero gives to it`s `Quick` interface, just a place where you can start all the parts of Nero from in pne little box. Thing is, the version you probably got is the `cut down` version of Nero, so you may not have all of the video editing/authoring tools that comes with the full version-There is a part of Nero called `Nero Vision`, it`s integrated into the full Nero program, but it`s really a `bolt on` for doing video work outside of just burning/copying DVD`s.

I`m running the full version of Nero 7, and if I go to smartstart, choose DVD as the disc type, then Photo and Video then make or modify DVD- Video I can imprt from the disc directly. Whether this works with DVD- RAM, I honestly don`t know, but it`s worth a try.
The problem with Nero and any video work is that you may well finish up re-encoding your video, and you don`t really wan to do that.

To be honest, if you are going to do a lot of this, save your pennies and get TMPGenc DVD Author, it will be worth it

Try copying all the files direct to your hard drive with dvddecryptor (not ISO mode) and choose Nero`s burn DVD files option...
