Domain name purchase questions

puthsardarade (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 2nd October 2005, 08:06

Hi.

I`m looking to purchase a couple of .com domain names and I would like advice on where the best place would be to purchase these.

One of the domains will simply be a personal website, which would host my CV etc and the other one I was looking at being a business related domain but it would be just to advertise my part time services such as PC repairs/upgrades, networking etc.

I think freespace would be sufficiant and there wouldn`t be any need to buy any hosting unless someone suggests otherwise?

I have come across the following companies:

uk-reg
.com - £8.89

1&1.co.uk
.com - £8.89
# 50 e-mail forwarding addresses
# Domain forwarding & parking
# Full DNS Management
# Online account management
# Unlimited phone and e-mail support

netfirms.com (US based)
.com - $4.95
* 1 e-mail account @ your domain name
* Parking page
* web-based DNS management
* 24/7 technical support
Netfirms Basic Hosting
25MB, 1GB, 1 E-mail

godaddy.com (US based)
.com - around $8.25

The US sites are alot cheaper, any reason anyone one suggest not going for them? Which of the above would people suggest going with?

Thanks,
G

Just saw this on another site, but I had logged out and couldn`t be bothered to log back in :D At least I think it was the same one :D

Anyway, I also used 123 reg, they are pretty cheap and i`ve had no trouble.

For hosting I use http://www.penguin-uk.com/ Hosting packages start from £10 a year.

Hi,

I use this for £16.99 a year (Domain name extra)

http://www.net4now.com/isp_news/news_article.asp?News_ID=2847

I run a small site aand a forum on it and it performs well for the price. I have not found it offline which is more than I can say to about pipex who empty my bank account of far more than the above a month!

In hosting you normally get what you pay for. However the QIQ hosting is an excellant package to start with due to the amount of free software etc you get with it. The features it has are outstanding for the price.

Best regards

Baz
