Hi,
i`m tring to trnsfer files from my old pc(windows 95) to my new pc(windows xp).i`m using winlink software and connecting pc`s thru printer connection using a parallel cable for file transfers.
problem is every time i start winlink on my new pc it says `no parallel ports available`.
I`m sure everything is ok and the cable is fitted fine, so does anyone know what`s the problem here?
I`m baffled now so i`m in need of urgent help please.

Try looking in your bios, and make sure the Parallel port is enabled.

Apart from that, sorry, never used that method to connect 2 pc's together. Maybe use a USB flash drive?, hmm maybe not, no USB on win95..
If you can find an old Network card, stick it in and use that connection, over network.

Or better yet, and you don`t need any new parts.
If you are not afraid of the insides of pcs, just take out the old hard-drive and connect it to the second IDE connection of your new pc`s motherboard, and set the jumper to slave.

Then when you boot up you will have access to your old drive, and will be easy to copy your files over.

Good luck 8)
