modem trouble - Rather confused

help!
Father in law has my old PC, which I re-built from scratch last week. Built from a fully erased hard drive - overwitten using data eraser.

I built it with Windows 2000, and added XP, used my broadband to update to all latest Windows releases...works top bananna for me, on my BB connection. I hadn`t tried the modem though, but the drivers are installed and it troubleshoots OK.

Take it to his house, try to create an internet account,...... control panel, set up internet account, etc, but the add button for dial up and VPN is greyed out, and I get a Quote:
"711 Error, cannot load the remote access connection manager service"

Any ideas? I have had the PC modem workin in the past - no problems. :/ :/

Thanks splintercell, have tried that already...
I can update Telephony but get further errors on the remote access.

Im thinking regress back to windows 2k, (system restore),ensure modem works, then upgrade to xp (or even leave it windows 2k for that), unless there are any other ideas...

thanks for the help

Thats a error message users get at our place when they try to use dial-up in the network profile, you may need to disable some network services.

Will need to think more about this, off the train (too many pints to make a more accurate correction than what I just stated).

Update my solution is more NT based & is off little help here at present sorry.

If Mac users are "more intelligent than the average computer user," why do they need an operating system designed for complete idiots?

Hi

have you tried simply disabling the NIC hardware and maybe removing
TCP/IP configurations for it??

it may "force" the OS to default to the dial-up connection?

Ste.

...do you hat my new like?!?

Simon

Have you checked the modem hardware driver? if It`s up to date, try going into the modem properties and runup the diagnostics - this should show that the OS can communicate with the modem and show you the register states and some firmware info from the modem. Diags can also be got at via control panel/Phone and modem applet (providing telephony service is running).
