Got a Virus on my PC - need help!
Have got the W32.spybot.worm virus on my PC, which keeps popping up every minute or so in Norton Antivirus.
I`ve been through the ran Norton thoroughly, I`ve ran Adaware, I`ve scoured the registry, I`ve ran a search for tftp*.*, and I`ve done everything else I can possibly think of, but it won`t go away! Norton can`t even find it on a full system scan!
At the minute it keeps sticking itself in System32/spool/printers/ and the other day it was sticking itself in my shared folder. I`m at a complete loss, and short of formatting my PC, which I don`t want to do - I`ve ran out of ideas!!!
Help??!!! :(
Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

Hi Ben
turn off system restore
right click my computer>properties>system restore tab>
then put a tick in the system restore box.
use google and search for "Stinger", this is a stand alone tool
from Mcafee which may help.
once you have found and removed the virus, reinstate the system restore option.

RE: Got a Virus on my PC - need help!
i personally would not use norton
its not that reliable even though it is one of the most popular around
try using a different antivirus next time
would recommend panda or bitdefender
i used norton before
uninstall it because it uses too much memory
changed to panda .. and guess what panda detects 4 extra virus that norton didnt find!
a friend of mine changed to bitdefender and found 5 virus (and this was done last week)
come and challenge my Chokie Monsta`
cokie enjoy

This happened to me also on my old PC when I did a panda antivirus online scan, except panda found a lot more than 4 viruses that norton failed to detect.
I bought panda platinum internet security (includes firewall) for my new PC for only
£7.04 at ebuyer and it`s been great. It comes with a very big virus definitions database and on average about 50 new virus definitions are added to it every day, so it`s money well spent.
EDIT: Forgot to add that the link is for the OEM version "to be sold with any "non-peripheral hardware component" and is bundled as such". The boxed retail version is £23.49.

RE: Got a Virus on my PC - need help!
Ben you need to get rid of Norton and go with AVG, Norton are crap IMO. AVG is free, do a search on here for it the link to d/l it should be in one of the posts.

Thanks everyone, now trying BitDefender first. Then I might try Panda too, depending on how well it does.
Then I`ll try Ste`s method if none of those work, though oddly since resetting my PC the virus hasn`t come up? Pretty sure its still around though...

AVG here.
RE: Got a Virus on my PC - need help!
You might want to consider doing what Ogster recommends doing in this thread : install AVG and do a free online scan once a week from both Trendmicro & Panda. Whatever you decide make sure you get rid of Norton. ;)
