Advice on new dvd writer sought...

oojason (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 16th November 2004, 15:53

My old dvd writer has bit the big one and so I`m after a new external one for my laptop.

I`ve been on ebay.co.uk looking and came across an `16X NEC 3500A USB 2 EXTERNAL DVD WRITER/BURNER` which claims to write both -r and +r formats for £84.99 plus p&p here:-

Is this a good dvd writer? Is that a good price for it? Are there any others that are better for around the same price?

Any and all advice welcome!

its reasonable price. i have the same one but internal. its very good and fast, the fastest blanks i have found are 12x at www.bigpockets.co.uk they also sell burners. the speed for dual layer is 2.4 some 4x speed discs work with it at 4x speed.

If you are willing to put it all together yourself, you can buy the external case and the dvd burner from svp for about £70 + p&p

It takes about five minutes

Sorry, forgot to state

{AC 5041} External Storage 5.25"/3.5" HD/CD/DVD RW Case with USB and Firewire. £24.98

{HA 4100}***Beige*** NEC 3500 16x DVD+/-R writer with 4x Double Layer DVDR writing compatibility and 48x CDR writing compatibility £44.99

They also do black and silver, although they are more expensive
