DVD HELP NEEDED

G Roberts (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 23rd September 2004, 17:56

Hello I have recently purchased a dvd writer 6 speed i think and have started to copy some of my 700mb movies but have come across a few probelms and I was wondering if anyone out there can be of some assistance

Firstly i am using Ulead dvd moviefactory to make my dvds and i have come across many problems including

If i want to make a simple menu with just a background image and a icon button for my movie this takes hours and hours to create because the program says it has to render the menu to the movie and i mean hours
I have tried putting chapters into my movie to break it up but i dont know how many i should have. I am currently using 10 chapters for my movie file which is about 90 mins long and it is still taking hours and hours to render.

I need your help anyone outhere please to advise me on either how to go about creating dvds with simple menus with ease that dont need to take hours to render with ulead moviefactory or suggesting to me another program which i should use. I have currently got nero express version 6 aswell but it doesnt let me make menus or insert avi`s or mpegs onto dvs just dvd vob files.

PLease can someone help???
Gavin

Hi

i also use dvd movie factory, and yes it takes aeons to render certain stuff.
can`t advise what software to use, but a high spec pc will certainly improve
things for you.

Gavin, get yourself over to www.dvdrhelp.com - there`s load of software guides on there.

I personally use TMPG to convert AVI`s into the MPEG2 streams (DVD compliant) which does take a little while, but the quality it good. CCE might be worth a try as well (it`s quicker and some peeps prefer it).

Then, to quickly create menus etc. and chapters - I use DVD Labs...very easy to use and a great program. Quite reasonably priced IMO

Rendering from MPEG files to VOB files takes time (the files process slower than running the film in real time, so you can expect a 90 min movie to process in around two hours). A higher spec processor, larger memory, faster and bigger hard drive will help, but you won`t get much of a speed improvement.

When you make a set of DVD files, you`re not simply copying the video/audio and attaching a menuing system, you`re rendering a set of specialised data files that relate to each other in a very specific manner. It takes time to do that. Sorry. :/
