According to the instructions which appears to be true this printer wont work unless all six cartridges are in place and have ink in. The problem is i`m doing loads of Black & White printing at the moment and have had to replace all the colours even though apart from a few photo`s when I purchased it have never been used. I`m now on the second batch and after starting the printer up each day you can almost visibly see the the coulour ink disappearing during cleaning. This is going to cost me a fortune ! >:(
I`m going to be doing a lot of Black & White work over the next month. Does anyone know a work around for this so the printer will work in Black & White without gobbling up all my colour ink.
Thanks
sas
If you only print in Black then your colour cartridges should not empty. If you clean your printer heads then this uses both colour and black cartridges and if you clean often then you will see a dramatic reduction in your cartridges. Only clean when you have to.
This is unfortunately the downside of inkjet printers.
Are you buying your cartridges @ full price? If you are then try buying from somewhere like choice stationary

Yeah, colour ink shouldn`t be used when just printing B & W. Some is used each time you turn your printer on. If you`re doing that a lot then that`s probably where it`s going.
Just leave it on..That`s what I do now.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
I have an EPSON RX500 which also takes 6 cartridges and although genuine EPSON ones can be £10.99 each,NUTRONIC do compatible versions at just £1.50,as long as you buy 5 complete sets at once-all with next day delivery.A bargain
RE: EPSON R300 PHOTO PRINTER QUESTION
Buy a JR Inkjet "Zapper" for a tenner and reset the chips :)
Be warned though, if you do some head cleaning and need to colour print, you may have run out your colour cart by then.
