Any decent wireless router will do the job.

Get matched router & pci card (i.e same manufacturer) and a 54g setup.

The router will connect to your cable modem via Ethernet (cat5 connection) which at worst will run @ 10Mbps (most run @ 100Mbps), so you shopuldn`t see any slowdown. You`ll need an existing Ethernet connection to configure the router (before you go wireless) and clone your existing MAC address.

I bought a Linksys DSL router, but it developed a hardware fault inside a year, so can`t recommend them. I have heard good reports of D-Link stuff though...

Hi

is it the wired cable modem that you`ve got or the wifi from the tv box?

in each instance i think you`ll need a wireless router with built in access
point to achieve what you`re after. should be able to get a router/access point
for less than £90 nowadays, plus you`ll need a Wireless PCI card for the PC,
then probably use one of the USB wireless adaptors for the laptop (unless it`s
already wifi equipped).

As Spiny says, you`ll have to clone the MAC address of your current NIC into
the router. Remember to power down everything after you`ve cloned the MAC address
then start eveything back up.

If you`re going to share files as well as the internet, you`ll need to configure your firewall
to allow the laptop and the pc to communicate. Make sure that they`re on the same subnet (usually 255.255.255.0) and set both of the pc`s to obtain an IP address
automatically through DHCP.
Right click into network places (or neighbourhood depending on your OS) then click
on Properties, then right click on your corresponding adaptor (id`d as LAN) then select
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, then ,make sure that the Obtain IP and
DNS radio buttons are highlighted. Click apply etc. Also make sure that you`ve enabled
File & Print sharing.

I bought the Netgear DG834G with free USB Adaptor from Ebuyer and it`s excellent. Don`t think that model works on cable but there are plenty of other Netgear ones that do work.
