epson cartridges and true colours?

dakwah (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 23rd May 2004, 16:19

my digital camera pictures on glossy paper have pinkish faces, other colours ok. Is it because one of the colours is low? Does the cartridge monitor look for all empty colour tanks indivdually and says its empty or does it monitor a single one and reports back that the whole thing needs changing?

or do i need a new printer? fancy the HP 7960. anyone recommend it?

you should be able to see the ink levels by going into the properties of the printer when printing in the first place, assuming you installed the epson drivers and didn`t just rely on the windows ones
Also run the head test and if necessary the head cleaning utilities as you may find the head test reveals erratic printing from some of the tests.
These printers are designed to refuse to print unless all the ink is available even if its the colour thats run out and you want to print in black and white which is a pain

This is because the screen displays in RGB and the printer prints in CYMK. You need to adjust the screen gamma in your graphic prog to match the printer, then things should be fine.

take a look here www.photoexpert.epson.co.uk/UK/EXPERTISE/how_to_icc_page1.htm

It is the epson way of matching your printer to your screen. Having discovered this recently my printer is too old for the function :(

Also each editing software produces different results. I`ve recently started using Roxio photosuite with far better results than the Arcsoft software I had before. The autofix function on the Roxio made the monitor image look way wrong but on printing looked great.
