Connecting PC to Yamaha AV Receiver

Can anyone help out there? I`ve just bought a new high spec base unit and I was going to buy a mid range speaker system fot it. I saw on one of the other threads that it may be possible to connect a AV system to the PC with good results. So up into the loft I went to retrieve an old Yamaha RX 393RDS system that I have. When I tried to connect it to PC however - nothing! Two ?s there4. One, is it possible and safe to do; and if so, how? Grateful for any help you can offer.

The way i do it is to run a headphone to phono cable from my PCs sound card to my amps cd input.

Just plug the headphone end into the socket with the speakers marked on it (if its not clear you might have to plug it into all of them, trial and error stylee) and plug the phono ends into your amp as you would a cd player.

voila

Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent.
Forty percent of all people know that.
