I got a cheep Lexmark - been very happy with it. Cartridges whilst pricey lasted me over 6 months, and that was wih lots of photo quality printouts.

Absolutely love our Epson Stylus CX5400 that we got earlier this year. Cost about £120, but that included a USB cable, which a lot of them don`t, and it has separate cartridges for each of the 3 colours, so that you don`t have to replace the lot when one colour runs out.

I recently got an HP 1100 all in one from WH Smiths. 69.99 with a 25 sheets of photopaper and a free usb cable. Bit of a bargain all in all as the printer is excellent and the scanner is pretty handy too.

Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent.
Forty percent of all people know that.

I`ve got an Epson CX3200 and it is excellent in my opinion , it does good quality prints and cartridges are cheap if you buy compatibles.

I`ve had a few Lexmarks over the years, but never again.

While they`re good printers, with lots of nice features, the running costs are astronomical, as was shown in a recent investigation of printers in Computeractive. If you print a lot of photos (ie I used to like doing A4 size prints for framing) at max print quality, you can virtually see the ink levels dropping, it`s that bad. It`s cheaper to upload them to somewhere like Klick.co.uk and have them do a proper photo (very reasonable for a 10x8 by the way :) ).

My printer has been running on black only for quite some time, as I refuse to buy any more colour cartridges at the prices they ask.

Quite a few manufacturers are going down the route of chipping the cartridges now too, to make it harder for you to use compatibles or refills (apparently it`s still possible once the chip`s been reset).

My next printer is going to be an Epson, either the CX5400 or CX6400. They have the advantage that the colours are in seperate pots, so say the red runs out first, you just replace the red. You`re not throwing a cartridge away that still may have some of the other colours still in it like with a Lexmark. Epson prices also seem to be a lot more reasonable too.

Lexmarks are cheap to buy, but you pay in the long run if you use it much due to the running costs. Also they now come with cartidges only part full, so you have to replace them sooner. Whereas they used to come with proper, full ones before. Gets the price down even more I guess, and makes them more attractive to buy, if people don`t realise. :)

Mark. :)

Thanks for that Mark - very helpful. I`ll probably go for either the 5400 or 6400.

Thanks. Mark (Sse below) also suggested the epson, so I`ll go along with that.
