Stereo PC Speakers

bigfan (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 11th March 2004, 00:38

We have a new PC on the way (as another PC, not to replace this one) and I didn`t like the options for the speakers so didn`t order any with it.

However, I cannot make up my mind about which ones to try. There is nowhere that I know that lets you try them out so I`m going on reviews alone.

JBL Creature

Altec Lansing 2100

Altec Lansing VS4121

Creative Labs i-Trigue 2.1 3300 Speakers

These are the basic models I`ve been looking at. All have received pretty good reviews but I can`t make up my mind.

Any ideas?

if you have any old bits of stereo kit kicking around connect it up to that. My pooter is running through an old (but still brilliant) yamaha AX-390 amp and a pair of mission 702`s. Its sounds sweet as a nut and p***es on any computer speakers, tbh.

With the amount of MP3s ive got, its pretty much my main stereo now. Its worth thinking about making your pooter a media hub.

Other than that, i heard the creatures are very good indeed.

For pure aesthetic pleasure (as well as sounding very, very nice) - then the Harman Kardon Soundsticks are very good

Best price appears to be Dabs for those (£116.32) - OK, I know they`re not exactly cheap but trust me they look and sound great

Edit - FYI they work on both Max & PC`s (they simply plug in via USB)

for stereo pc speakers
harman kardon and altec lansing were always the best

from your choice of four i would go for altec 2100 (because its cheap) and you can get it for £50 including delivery from LOW

if you want to spend more than that I would go for the new creative i trigue 3450/3500
reviews said that it beats the altecs speakers

cokie enjoy

I had a set of these Altek Lansing speakers with my PC from Dell a couple of years ago. They sound great to me. Paid a bit more than £9.99 for them though. :/

Cheers.

Altec 2100 look canny for the price, will have a further look into it.

Are those the ones you mean? I`m not too sure on these flat panel speakers.

There are some Teac ones as well on that site which don`t look too bad.

I prefer having mroe choice than less though, even if it causes a few headaches.

In a fit of impulsiveness, I ordered the Altec 2100`s.

They don`t get bad reviews anywhere, whereas some of the others, whilst getting excellent reports in places, get some poor reviews elsewhere.

In all honesty they all looked pretty good and they`re not going to be at any extreme volume anyway so there wasn`t a bad choice.

Those HK Soundsticks looked quite nice, but for that price I could buy a pair of monitors with an amp (as pointed out earlier in the thread).

Cheers for your help, those who contributed.
