44 KBT FILE ON MY BLANK DVD-R`S - HELP PLEASE

Funkypants (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 19th February 2004, 20:19

Forgive my ignorance but I`m new to the world of DVD back ups. I have a Pioneer A104 DVD writer and each blank disk that I put in shows as having a 44 kbt file already on it. Therefore the drive won`t recognise it as blank media. I initially used cheaper media but have now gone for decent JVC`s. Same problem.
I`ve updated to the latest firmware to no avail.
I wonder if this is familiar to anybody else who may have a simple solution or explanation.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I may be wrong but here goes. I can only guess that you are using Roxio Version XXX.
Roxio has a habit of indicating that each and every blank DVD-R has an audio file written on it. I had the exact same problem the weekend after I bought my 105.
Easiest remedy is to download a demo version of Nero 6 from http://www.nero.com and use that . You should have no problems using Nero. I have been using Nero since that first weekend and have had no problems worth mentioning at all.

There is nothing wrong with the media you are using so stick with the discs you have at present. After all the media can be bought for around 75p a disc so a couple of coasters, while not ideal, is no great hassle.

Use DVD Shrink, 1.3 upwards and this will utilise Nero in its routine and allow you to backup and burn your DVD collection with a simple few clicks of the mouse button.

Choagy,
I appreciate that, nice one. I`ve got DVD shrink 3.0.5 so that should be okay, and Nero 6 ultra to play about with. I`ve not heard of Roxxio though.
Basically as soon as I insert the disk in the drive my audio player programme automatically fires up trying to `play` the mysterious 44kbt file, saying it doesn`t recognise it.
I shall carry on in light of your advice and see how I get on. Thanks very much!
