how do make a dvd that plays in a dvd player?

cassius76 (Elite) posted this on Friday, 2nd January 2004, 10:34

I have a dvd rw drive. I have dvd r+ discs. I have a program that rips dvds onto my hard drive. so, how do I get the movie onto the disc? I have a demo of nero 6, . The ripped dvd comes to 3.7 gig. The dvd R+ disc is 4.7 gig. Nero says it can make a playable disc from the ripped VOB files BUT my disc is too small? And it needs to compress. How much does the image quality suffer? I have already made 1 coaster and at £2.50 a time, this could be pricey.

the ripping software I use is dvd shrink

If I were you, I would get some RW discs to experiment on ( till you master it) to avoid coasters.

And for goodness sakes stop using Nero! Don`t uninstall it, but get a copy of ImgToolBurn. All you have to do is make your VIDEO_TS folder and then burn it to disc.

Not that I`m condoning ripping DVDs, you understand. Naughty. Shouldn`t do it.

Hi James

Suggest you try latest version DVDx copy from 321 studios, this is simple, works well and auto compresses with minimal quality loss. I have used this for Lord of the Rings 2 towers and cannot percieve any quality loss due to compression. I think it costs around £35 and is downloadable.

why as ive used nero for years now with no problems as it is very easy to use. if you want a full version of nero go here
http://www.phucker.co.uk/public/ about a third down the page you will see nero 6 ultra download this and it will sort all ya problems. once you have it open it up select dvd video files and drag the whole dvd file accross just like you do with mp3 then select burn and away you go. if you nead to compress the files youse dvd 2 one or clone dvd.

ogster,

I am a newbie,
I just use dvdshrink 2.3 & nero 5.5
I do not use dvddecrypter.
What are the benefits of using dvddecrypter when you are already using dvdshrink?
my burner is a Pioneer 105.
Thanx.

for some reason when i use shrink to rip the dvd, the picture qulity is not as good it should`nt make any difference but it does, don`t why, but it works for me and i`m happy with the results so if it ain`t broke don`t fix it :D
