Half Life 2...April 2004..:-(

Looks like part of the source code has been `stolen` from Vivendi`s computer system by a hacker.
Or am I being too cynical in thinking they needed a really good excuse for delaying the game again???

Am I the only person to see the `Stunt` that they have pulled off?

They `intentionally` leak the source, which then gives them the window to give us a load of s***, saying how people can manipulate the game...that source code is months old!
I remember when they said back in April how it was `Definatly on for X-mas 2003`. There was NO WAY they could stick to there 2003 release date and have used this very clever trick to give themselves more time, while pulling the wool over peoples eyes...that in itself is award winning!

I reckon, like most, it`ll be 2004.

It`s ridiculous if they put it back to April 2004. I really do not see how the stealing of the source code sets the actual game back so far - like has been said, it`s clearly an excuse.

I think it will be out in 2004, and all this mucking around with the release dates is seriously getting on my nerves. The thing is this happens all the time now with games - why don`t they just not set a release date and release the damn thing when its ready! Do you realise that if its true - thats another 6 months! 1/2 a year! Is the game really that unfinished?

The reason they put the game back was because with the source code, steam source was aslo taken. That means that they have to re-write the steam client before the release of HL2.

Steam is the hub piece of software to manage the patches/subscriptions/online games, so its a fairly key piece of software to have compromised. Imagine putting your creditcard details into an unsecure steam client? that`s why they HAVE TO re-write it.

Hominid,
So you really believe that not only was the code stolen but they also deleted the copy they took and somehow deleted any backup copies that were taken and stored separately as I would imagine a company such as this would do?

Seems I`m not the only one to think it`s a cynical ploy.

Really Hominid, like Ste said, they`d have many backups of the stolen code. I just hope that the whole delay thing doesn`t turn out to be true.
