Norton Firewall blocks the net

It never used to but, afer it having a major spazz yesterday as it kept alerting me that explorer wanted to access the net, the only way I can brows the web is by turning it off. Strangely, it does not affect me using messenger. Ive checked the settings and it says explorer is on Permit All and I have tried all the other to no avail. Any ideas?

your problem sort of sounded similar to this one.

Only that Messenger works fine. Its the net that is the problem as it says it cant find the server when Norton is on but everything is fine with it off, therefore, it is off for me to write this.

Open Norton Personal Firewall
Select Personal Firewall
Select Configure
Select Program Control
Select Manual Program Control List
Scroll down to Internet Explorer
Left click to get pop up menu and select Permit All

While you`re there, select Messenger (unless you USE it) and select Block All to switch the bastard off.

Tried that and it didnt work. I have solved the problem by uninstalling it and downloading Zonealarm Pro. That does the trick! Yas-ta-vay!

Problem is caused by a duff firewall rule being created in the firewall rules blocking all traffic on port 80 ... literally unticking 1 tick box ... or can be fixed by disabling firewall and running a liveupdate
