Can I connect my hi-fi to my pc?

Faramir (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 1st September 2003, 17:50

Can someone tell me if I can connect my hi-fi/speakers to my PC. I have no idea if this is even possible. I would like to use the hi-fi speakers with the PC.
If it can be done, how do I go about it?
My hi-fi is not new, it is an AIWA Z1100.

Thanks for any help.

A sound card driving Hifi sized speakers ? I think you might have power problems there as speakers of any size are usually plugged into the mains. Your best bet would be to connect your pc to your hifi via an aux input socket or microphone socket perhaps.

This can be easily done, On the back of your PC there should be a small audio output (3.5mm Stereo Jack) and on the back of you Hi Fi there should be a red audio input and a white audio input (2 RCA / 2 Phono)

Now you need a cable to connect the two together which can be purchased here.

All you need to do now is to sling that between your PC and your Hi Fi, and put your Hi Fi on auxiliary mode (consult the Hi Fi manual)
