hi all
how common are dead pixels on tft monitors and how many should i expect?
Saxton
depends on the manufacturer and resolution.
it also depends on the placement of the pixel, ie if it near the edge it`s considered acceptable. personaly i don`t think it`s acceptable at all and had my laptop exchanged for having 1 single dead pixel (very near the edge of the screen) staples changed it on the spot with no hassle.
HOPE THIS HELPS
I AM NOT A LEMON, I AM A CABBAGE.
im getting a 15" samsung 1024x768 from argos so any trouble and it will go back under warranty!!!!

dead pixels on TFT screens are very common, most retailers allow upto 5 and they will then replace the item. Its a sorry part of the manufactoring process ! or so they say. Myself I would have taken out the extended gtee and dropped it whilst dusty opps
I read somewhere that they hold back the good TFTs for the expensive screens and put the ones with dead pixels in the cheaper ones, mine was £450 reduced from £700 with no visible problems though i had to wait 4 months for the monitor because they couldn`t manufactuer them fast enough, apparantly they can`t churn them out fast like normal CRTs

You`re getting it from Argos, so you`ve got the 16 day thingy anyway, otherwise I just make no dead pixels a fundamental of the contract. When I bought my laptop I just stated, in front of a witness, that I would return it as unsatisfactory if there were any dead pixels. Fortunately there weren`t, but by making it an essential of the contract then you`re perfectly within your rights to return it.
They can however tell you to take a running jump :p

I may be thick, but What are dead pixels??
I know its something to do with the quality of the screen but what do they look like, how do you notice them.
Just asking out of interest you can ignore if you wish.
When I bought my flat screen I had two dead pixels towards the bottom left & a bright one on the upper left. I`m usually very fussy & complained to Aldi who said I could change it but there were no more, I was told I could wait for the next batch (probably about a couple of months) or my money back. I chose to keep the moniter as at the time there were no others at the price. After 18 months I`d totally forgot about them until this thread.
