Need some prompt advice about motherboards!
I am currently upgrading my pc, getting a new motherboard and processor. I`ve decided on a 2.6 Athlon processor but I am not clued up on motherboards. I`ve seen both Gigabyte and Asus motherboards. Can these be recommended? Would there be a motherboard more suited to this processor type/brand?
Also if I decide at a later date to upgrade the processor again, is there a motherboard which is better `future proofed` than others or is that just a case of buying a newer model gives you better future-proofing?
I`ll also be having 256MB of DDR (upgrading from that soon too) and will need two USB ports.
I`ll be upgrading soon so any prompt advice would be appreciated!
Thanks
RE: Need some prompt advice about motherboards!
As I`ve mentioned on another thread - I have the Gigabyte A7VAXP....which I think is great.
However, everyone (and not just in these forums) seems to rant about the Asus A7N8X (Deluxe version)...which uses the nForce2 chipset and is supposedly very good
Asus link -> www.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x-d/overview.htm
Also - Ebuyer have it right now for £93.53
Hope that helps

Yep,the Asus is currently the best N-FORCE 2 mobo on the market at the moment.
and i`m saying that even though i have a Leadtek n-force 2 mobo which i`m very happy with.
remember to go foe the deluxe board
RE: Need some prompt advice about motherboards!
Get the Deluxe version of the A7N8X from ASUS. Top board, with great onboard audio, Firewire, Serial ATA and more. The latest revisions of the board have a 400MHz FSB. If you like you can also pair up the DDR RAM for increased performance, but this is not compusorary.
RE: Need some prompt advice about motherboards!
Agree with the other suggestions but consider the Chaintech Apogee 7NJL1
Supports FSB speeds 200 / 266 / 333 & 400 so reasonably future proof for the faster CPU`s in the next year or so.
You can get this board for around £80 so good value and also you get the CBox which uses a spare drive bay to allow connection of USB devices , speakers and headphones etc at the front of the case.
That is the board I hope to get quite soon .
