Hi, you may have a DVD drive but is it a DVD-R drive, in other words a recordable one. If you have and you just want to back up your cd`s then Nero software will be able to do this.
Or if its home video`s you are doing there are lots of software to do this rangeing from £30 upto £600 or more.

Hello, you can record upto 18 minutes of full dvd quality video on a standard cd-r/rw disk using your recordable cd drive. but you will have to author the files correctly using dvd authoring software for it to play on any DVD player console.
If you want to encode more than this you will need to purchase a DVD recordable drive, preferably DVD-R and not DVD+R. One way of doing this without buying a DVD burner is to create Video CD`s. Most DVD players can play these and you can record upto 45 minuites on one disk using a standard CD Burner and Nero/Roxio software

You can find loads of advice for video copying/encoding/recording, and software, some free, some not, at the following link,

hope this was of help
