...who the majority of people won`t have heard of, and give a brief description of the music they play.

I`ll start.

Everyone should check out The Lackloves, and indeed the rest of the bands on the Rainbow Quartz label (www.rainbowquartz.com). They are very much Beatles/Byrds influenced and they play extremely catchy power pop music.

Everyone should also check out The Bleeding Hearts. Described as "21st century fiddle driven punk folk anarchy", they are a really great band live.

I`ve really been getting into Swedish band The Concretes recently.
They`re very much 60`s influenced yet have a very distinct sound of their own, like a cross between The Velvet Underground, The Supremes, The Byrds, The Jesus And Mary Chain with some folk thrown in. Their music is sleek, dreamy and very melodious pop but with some complex arrangements at times involving a 24 piece orchestra, and I just love singer Victoria Bergsman`s voice - seductive but also fragile.

Four studio session tracks (listen to You Can`t Hurry Love first) can be heard here and there`s also the video of Seems Fine.

Thanks for the other tipoffs, and thanks also to Snookums for recommending The Concretes on this forum.

Has Can`t Hurry Love been used on a soundtrack or something, it sounds familiar? Feel free to laugh at me if it is a cover or something obvious :D

As soon as The Byrds are mentioned, my ears prick up! I will definitely be buying The Concrete`s album as I have heard about them before and the mp3s sound excellent. 8)

EDIT: Speaking of Swedish bands, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives are well worth checking out, especially their album Behind The Music. A touch of The Who/Rolling Stones to their sound.

Not that I know of. You might be getting it mixed up with The Supremes song of the same name, or of course the Phil Collins cover of that song. ;)

I resisted though and ordered The Concretes` latest album from CdWow as I had a voucher that needed using.

I`ll let you know what I think when I get it...

Yeah I`ve heard good things about The Go! Team. Their album was in a few Best Of lists from 2004.

I received The Concretes` album on saturday and have played it a few times since and already I love it. Victoria Bergsman`s voice is so haunting...reminiscent of The Cardigans at the start of their career.

If you like The Concretes, and the lead singer`s voice in particular, then I`d recommend It`s Not Enough To Love by Denise James. Again, you can listen to a couple of mp3s on the Rainbow Quartz website: http://www.rainbowquartz.com/artists.asp?BC=DJ Her voice is equally as haunting - a superb album.
