Pioneer 444k problem with Hollowman (help required)

Paranoia (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 30th May 2002, 22:15

I`ve had my Pioneer 444k since christmas and it`s been a joy to use and hasn;t had any trobule with any DVD (even Region 1, having been modded by techtronics before I purchased it). But I got Hollowman (Region 2) today and it refuses to paly past around 46 mins into the film (part way through chapter 12).

The DVD works fine on my Playatation2 so it`s unlikely to be the disc. Is this a known problem? And if not can anyone suggest a reason and how I might proceed from here.

Thanks in advance.

Have you had any luck in sorting your problem. I am just about to buy a Pioneer 444s from Amazon and wan to be sure it`s not going to have problems.

Hollowman R2 plays fine on mine, and that was a rental copy that looked like a cat had used it as a scratchpost.
Only disc I`ve had problems with was a rental copy of ` The Parole officer ` which stopped dead and Steve Coogan`s face smeared all over the screen. Quite creepy actually. Like the video for Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden....anyway....I took a note of the time it had stopped at then reloaded the disc and jumped to a few seconds after the problem. It played fine after that.
Seems to be that there is no such thing as an infallible player, and disc quality is somewhat variable.
I`ve never had it happen with a bought disc, as I only rent, but I would assume you`re entitled to a replacement disc ?
I don`t consider one ` iffy ` disc a reason to doubt my player.
