llll_lllll_llllll (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 28th May 2002, 14:17

What is the best DVD Player to buy for use at home with a TV for playing DVD`s, VCD`s, MP3`s and anything that you can throw at it? Oh yeah must be multi region and able to disable macrovision.

And where can i purchase one and for how much?

Sorry for the 20 questions, just thought you`d all be able to help.

Cheers for the help as well

Yelo 800 (from Amazon) does all these things (and more). Price just dropped to a very impressive £120! (you can still find it for £200 in some places)

Where have you seen it for £120? As i`ve just checked and it`s £175.99 + £9.99 for P+P.

Cheers

Hi,
Look under DVD players at
http://www.amazon.co.uk
I got one yesterday, with post, the cost was about £125.
The setup screens look very much like the Dansai 852 ( I had 2 of those -both broke down) I wonder if they are related?

I got one too. I actually paid £149 but before it was delivered it came down to £119. I called them and the £30 has just gone back on my credit card.
Pleased with it? For info, on the back, is one of your connectors called FDDI? I think it`s the optical output..

Steve,
Yes very pleased, though I have only tried DVD`s so far. Shame it has no slow motion like my (returned/knackered) Dansai 852`s did, but it is much quieter - one of the 852`s made more noise than a spin drier full of rocks!
I shall check the connectors when I can find a working torch.
Regards,
JJ

After having looked at amazon.co.uk you probably noticed the H&B 4420 player at £109 which basically does pretty much everything and it looks better than the Yello 800. Well if you fancy that then don`t buy it from Amazon as you can get it with free delivery from www.dvdplayers.co.uk

For info...
my yelo 800`s just packed in...
It`ll play vcd`s ok but when I put a dvd in it goes fuzzy and the screen starts flashing bright green on and off. I can`t push stop or turn it off with standby. I have to turn it off at the mains! Any ideas anyone??

Fixed!!
In the `hidden` menu, there`s a CSS option. I`d set it to OFF from AUTO. Why would this stop DVD`s playing? I understand it to be some sort of coding/encryption. What`s it there for if it stops DVD`s playing????
