Panasonic or Toshiba? Please Help!

MarkHorton (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 2nd May 2002, 11:44

I`m looking to buy a 32" Widescreen TV and have been looking at a couple of different models. I`d be grateful if anyone could offered opinions and suggestions.

The two models I`ve been looking at are the Panasonic TX32DK1 and the Toshiba 32Z17B.

Somebody has told me that the Quintrix FST on the Panasonic, isn`t `Flat` as such, is this a problem when compared to other flat tube TV`s?

Basically the question is which of these should I buy, or has someone got another suggestion?

Thanks for your time

Mark

I had a 32DK1 for a week before it went back cos of a faulty scart socket (was gutted when the supplier said they had no more left and I couldnt find one in stock anywhere else).
It is nearly flat with only slight curves at the edges - they may still have some in local Currys stores if you want to check one out in person. I now have a totally flat Philips 32PW6515 and for my eye the Panny had a much better picture.

Where are you getting it from BTW?

Thanks for the reply, they`ve got one in Curry`s for £700. I could probably get it cheaper on the `net, but the lead times are up to six weeks, and I want it it time for the World Cup!!

I`ve been tempted by the Toshiba 32Z17B (I think that`s right). Cheaper at Tesco.com at £685 and with a true flat screen, but I`ve been unable to see it in person, so don`t know whether to take the risk. I`m going to have a closer look at the Panasonic, to check out the screen and picture, I just wish I could find somewhere that had the Toshiba in stock. The internet`s great for bargains and choice, but a little impersonal. It`s a case of having my cake and wanting it fed to me by Kylie, I`m afraid!

The Panasonic is a good telly though, despite not being a `True Flat` then? Was the faulty scart socket a known problem with them?

Regards

Mark
