Pay through the nose for region 2? or buy region 1?

drumknott (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 29th April 2002, 22:05

Has anybody got any thoughts on this subject? Please let me know.

I have been looking around for a while for a car in dash DVD player. U.K region 2 players over here retail at £500 minimum while i can buy a better (in my opinion) region 1 player with remote etc for under £200.

Now i know what your thinking.....I can`t play discs bought from a shop over here right?
But i can buy region 1 DVD`s and get them delivered within 2 days from sites such as play.com etc.

Now I think i`m going to go for it and buy the region 1 player but it all sounds too easy to me so could anyone please let me know their thoughts on the matter.

(by the way the screens i am using are ntsc/pal so they will work with either)

Thanks

well, i dunno. but i got the dansia 852 for £99 or so. it plasys multi regoin with a simple hack via the remote. plays RCE encoded disks.... plys Region 4 disks are cheaper, generally dont come in that crap cardboard casing, has the same feature as USA and UK and are out around the same time as USA

look at harry potter....... for an example... over here its £20 min..... in Oz with the exchange rate its £10 ...... $3 - £1

Just one question
Does this Dansia 852 fit in your car dashboard?

Marshan Man - Harry Potter is a bad example, as Australia only get it in Pan & Scan - no widescreen version.
To answer the original thread, I`d say go R1. If that is the price difference between the R1 and the R2 machine, then it`s a no brainer - think how many DVDs could be bought with the difference. There are plenty of decent R1 suppliers around. Do you have any DVDs already for your home system?

Hi Richard
I already have several R1 dvd`s now because i changed my dvd rom to R1 aswell. I also have an in dash remote control dvd player coming anytime soon that i paid £176.00 for including shipping.

Now if i can only find someone who can change the region on these players then i can pass these great deals onto you guys.

Look around. I did. Do you think that`s a good price then? Will other people want to buy them? I thought it was just me.

If anyone is interested in having in car dvd stuff I bought my screens for a very reasonable price too.

I will have to confirm this when my DVD player comes, but i have just found out that the in dash player i am getting is region free and will play all discs.
If this is true then i make a website with prices and more info and post links to it on here.

If anybody is interested then let me know.

I think he is intending to set up a business selling them.

So the DVD Reviewer website will be able to earn more money when he posts his adverts. :o)
