Anyone know a supplier for coloured speaker grille fabric?

RichardH (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 27th April 2002, 08:40

Just starting to put together a new system in a *big* room, and would like my surrounds (intending on 2 pairs of Mission M77DS) to blend in with the decor a bit.
Anyone know where I might get hold of some speaker grille material in deep red (the wall colour)?

You could try a car trimming specialist. Someone who installs custom car interiors, stereos etc as they quite often have to rebuild the door trim to incorporate the new speakers. Afraid I havent got any names though, but magazines like Fast Car will probably have loads of ads.

Alternatively could you not remove the grill and use some kind of spray paint on the grill? Dont know how it would fininsh though.

Cheap and cheerful solution:
Buy some ladies tights (relatively high dernier) of the desired colour and cover your grilles in them (leave the existing fabric on for support). If you`re careful and keep the tension the same and wrinkle free you`ll probably get the effect you`re after. If not, you`ve not exactly wasted much money.

Alternatively paint the room black to match the speaker grills! :-)

Thanks for the suggestions.
Maplins only seem to have black. I`ve had the good suggestion of gettting some white and dying it, so I`ll keep an eye open for white.
I was going to put it over the existing stuff anyway, as the Missions have the fabric over the whole wierdly-shaped front, and I don`t want to butcher them....
