Page 1 of Best Widescreen Under £600

does anyone have any recomendations on the best 28" widescreen thats under 600 odd quid to buy I allready have an av set up so i wont be wasting extra money on stuff like built in Dolby Digital etc

Ive looked at the Phillips 6006 my only worry about this is ive heard of recent philips having screen probs where blocks of colour appear on screen for no reason

The Toshiba Z06b, which ive heard is exactly the same as the highly rated Z07b but without the built in dolby digital, and with a 100 mhz screen rather than a 50mhz screen

The Toshiba Z13B and some panasonics (Pl10 i think)

will the be any noticiable diffrence between a curved and a flat screen (and what are the benefits of each) and what is the diffrence between 50mhz and 100mhz?

what do you guys think of te models ive listed and what do you think are the best 28" widescreens you can get for under £600

Well, I had a similar budget, but went for a "non flat" 32" widescreen, rather than the 28", and I`m glad I did - size DOES matter!
I bought a Panasonic TX32DK1, which I think has now gone out of production, but have been really pleased with it. Considered the 6006, but didn`t like the curved top - how do you balance the centre speaker on that (also the channel control is on top - good idea but not when there`s a speaker on top of it).
As far as screen curve, I don`t find it a problem - you do notice it when sitting "off axis", but it`s not that noticeable. When looking at sets in the shop, the difference is more obvious, and, had I a flat screen, I doubt I would want to go back to the slightly curved picture I have now.

I also had a Panny 32DK1 and I thought it was an amazing picture (despite not being totally flat) but I had to send it back `cos it had a dodgy scart socket. The supplier didnt have any more in stock so I ended up buying a Philips 32pw6515 - even tho` this is a FLAT screen I dont think it is as good as the Panny was.
The above Philips was £650 from www.hispek.co.uk but I cannot recommend them or the Telly (I was not happy with the picture quality but they refused to take it back unless I paid the return shipping)

I have read good things about both the JVC and Tosh and I the 32DK2 is the Dolby version of the 32DK1 which I thought was excellent.

I went from a normal 28" to the 32" widescreen and it definitely makes a great difference to your viewing pleasure (oh er missus).

I`ve got the JVC 28WFT1, can`t fault it, though I think it`s been replaced by a new model now.

thanks for the advice on 32"s but i dont have the room for a 32", even a 28" is ushing it sisewise (i have a narrow staircase leading to my room that is too narrow for 32"s to get up, but its jus about fine for 28"s

i looked at the dk1 (i think maybe dk2) in curreys the other day, it didnt look to bad (other than the currys price)

Can`t remember the model number, but the Thomson 28" 100 HZ comes in at about £600 from Comet. May be cheaper at Empire. Looks good, I`m about to buy its big brother from QED for £700.

Yes I have nothing better to do than search the web right now! At work waiting for the gaffer to allocate some boring bug fixes to me!
I will be honest I was gutted when the 32DK1 had to go back. Even the remote control was one of the most intuitive designs I had seen in a while. I`ve spent 4 months looking and glad I waited until last week when the brand new JVC range was revealed, just bought the new JVC 28" interiart AVR2825EKS silver flatscreen inc stand and 3yr warranty from empiredirect.co.uk all for £608, ordered sat pm arrived tuesd 10am
best looking 28" tv arround and stand is well cool, nicam & pro-logic with sub woofer if needed, 50hz and 3 scart (1 RGB) several picture modes and picture quality is as good as sony in my opinion, not many aware of this new range, only been out 1 week
