AIWA 370 & SVCD

Does the Aiwa support SVCD?

The other question. Does it support DTS?

Nobody has mentioned these features before!

Not sure about SVCD, but it does do DTS. I have one of these players and it`s a good performer, but it`s picture is not as good as the Wharfedale, there is quite a lot of banding noticeable, on walls etc. But the Wharfedale’s DVD drive is noisy and annoyed me so I changed it for this. Maybe Im asking for to much for only 200, but it might be worth paying the extra £80 and getting a Sony 335. not many features but very good picture. I would give the Aiwa 8 out of 10 for picture quality.

DTS has been mentioned before Aris.

It`s in the original communications between me and dukey, and I posted a list of outputs etc. after a request by someone...can`t remember who though.

And i still don`t get any banding on mine, nor have I heard of anyone else complaining of it!

Regarding the SVCD, I`ll let you know when I`ve created one. I`m just in the process of trying to do just this.

Any idea which is the best software to create SVCDs? I currently use a Canon MV200i with an ADS Pyro 1394 and Ulead Mediastudio to capture/edit in DV format. Presumably I would need something like DVDit to create SVCDs?

Get an AVI that is reasonable quality, download TMPGENC, re-encode using the SVCD profile (provided with TMPGENC). Then use Nero - Burning ROM to generate a compliant SVCD using the MPG that was generated with TMPGENC.

Check out http://www.vcdhelper.com/ .You can find links to TMPGENC, and also help on how to create a SVCD. Good site!

Aris pointed out http://www.vcdhelper.com/ You can find a 17Mb SVCD image file of the "Chicken Run" Promo (NTSC - think).

I needed Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 to burn it.
It worked great with my MiCO!

As SVCD is MPEG2 the Aiwa like all DVD players should have the hardware to play it. Although the firmware is another question.
Ive seen specs for the player on a German web site and alas NO mention of Super VCD.

Only Chinese sweatshop players will guarantee DVD/SVCD/CVD/VCD/MP3 compatibility. Its enshrined in Chinese law!!!
