Opinions Please On Speakers

John Young (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 21st November 2000, 23:18

I recently bought some new kit from Richer Sounds:-

Sony STR-DB940 5.1/DTS Amplifier
Celestion F1 Front Speakers
Eltax Symphony Centre Speaker
Eltax A8 Subwoofer
Eltax HT-2 Bipolar Rear Speakers

The question I have is has anybody else had experience of the HT2 Bipolars (or similar). The guy in the shop said it was better to buy 4 speakers the same for the front and rears (ie - two pairs of F1`s) but I wanted the Bipolars cos they are easier to wall mount.

I`m using the above for Dolby Digital and DTS from my Sony DVP S725 DVD player and Pioneer 925 LD player. Any opinions appreciated.

Cheers

No the rears don`t really have to match the rest of the soundstage. However, it is better to have a matching set of front speakers including the centre - Richer do a Celestion centre speaker I think, don`t they ?

I`m thinking of switching to Eltax C205 floorstanders (el cheapo in Richer - £59) for front and Eltax centre - I already have the A8 (it rocks, doesn`t it). What`s the Symphony like as a centre ?

Anything that improves on JPW Mini Monitors is cool by me...
