Page 1 of Sony HTK-215. DTS or not ?
Hardware Forum
SImple question, but conflicting reports available everywhere.
Techtronics website states " note - no DTS decoder " yet I seem to remember ` people ` saying it did do DTS.
Perhaps it`s that old chestnut of it can handle DTS if your DVD player decodes it. But then if your player had a DTS decoder surely it would have a 5.1 decoder and you wouldn`t be bothering with the HTK215 in the first place...? hmmm...
Anyone know for absolute, 100%, certain ??
Yes - definately does DTS. I have one and it decodes DTS fine.
As long as your dvd player outputs a dts signal, the sony htk-215 will decode it.
Phew...
Cheers for that
Wonder why Techtronics have that ` disclaimer ` ?
Strange...
Do you notice a huge difference between DTS and 5.1 ?
My Tosh 210 outputs both but I`ve never tried the DTS because Techtronics said it didn`t do it and my Tosh manual has great big warnings about damage to systems if you use the DTS wrongly !!
Do you ever switch between the 2 ? If so, is it easily done ?
My Tosh has a button that you press and the various sound options on that disc appear on the screen. Is it that simple ?
Cheers
It depends on the film really. Action/sci-fi movies tend to sound a little better on DTS but there isn`t as great deal in it. I remember somebody describing the two formats as DTS being a loud American and 5.1 being a refined English gentleman!!
You can easily switch between the two by going to the laungaues menu option but not all dvds have a DTS track. Look out for the logos on the back cover.
I`ve got one of these and DTS is one of the things I look for now when buying DVD`s. I always check the different regions just in case one offers DTS. I agree that action films such as Saving private ryan and gladiator sound brilliant in this format. Also moulin rouge sounded pretty damn good when I watched it tonite.
