Daewoo player at Argos - not the same as Scan?

chunky (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 21st November 2000, 07:28

Went and got one of the Daewoos from Argos the other day and was told that it *may* only have 1 scart socket. Got home and confirmed that it was missing one. Not really a problem for me as I use an S-Video cable and have nothing to plug into the scarts anyway but I`m going to take it back as it may have had other changes to it that will affect me like the region hack. If they can`t sort me out with one of the older models then I guess I`ll have to get the Scan.

Also the box and manual make great play about it only playing R2 discs, I assume all players are sold like this? :)

The Daewoo ALWAYS only had 1 scart. The Scan has two because thats what Scan asked the manufacturer for. Also Nelley says that the new Scan machine has a better decoder card in it now, and can also be upgraded via CD-ROM.

Am I right in thinking that the cd that upgrades the firmware on the Scan should also work with the Daewoo?

Now I`ve had a chance to try the machine I must say I`m impressed. Mucho fastness (certainly better than the old Tosh I used before) and the MP3 function is great (one of the main reasons I bought the machine). Not tried any R1 discs yet (have to wait on mail order) or the dts output but it`s a good looking machine and the picture on my Sony KP41S3 is tremendous.

I can confirm that the box and manual for the SCAN also state that the player will onnly play region 2 disc`s (and of course All region Disc`s) and that the machine is supplied to play Region 2 only.

This can of course be simply altered by following the instructions on the sheet supplied.

Cheers Vic
